Phagocytes and Cancer Immunology

Dendritic cells and macrophages are mononuclear phagocytes residing in lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues. They are the sentinels of the immune system as they can sense pathogens and danger signals and orchestrate the onset of immune responses. Our lab is interested in better understanding the ontogenetic, phenotypic and functional heterogeneity of these phagocytes. We use high dimensional technologies to dissect human and murine phagocyte populations and preclinical mouse models to decipher the mechanisms by which dendritic cells and macrophages contribute to the development and regulation of anti-tumor immune responses. Ultimately, we wish to harness dendritic cells and macrophages to enhance anti-tumor immunity and improve clinical response to checkpoint blockade therapies.
