The numbers speak for themselves ...
October 7: CNRS "Unusual Visits" – 42 visitors
On Wednesday, October 7, the Cochin Institute took part in the CNRS "Unusual Visits" (*Visites insolites*), an initiative that allows the public to discover research from a unique and privileged perspective.
The 42 participants had the opportunity to step into the world of the laboratories, meet research staff, and discuss their activities and scientific methods.
October 8 and 9: School students meet scientists – 72 students
Coordinated by Laurence Benit, four classes from middle and high schools in Paris and the surrounding region were welcomed at the Institut Cochin.
These two days gave 72 students the opportunity to discover research careers and take part in interactive activities, including microscope observations, experiments, demonstrations, and discussions with scientists.
An immersive experience that the young participants particularly appreciated, as evidenced by their reactions:
"We stepped into the shoes of a researcher, and it was just incredible!"
"I liked going into a laboratory and having everything clearly explained to me."
"It was interesting and, above all, interactive; using a microscope was cool. It helped me overcome my shyness and participate. Thank you!"
These testimonials illustrate the importance of direct interaction between scientists and the younger generation in sparking curiosity, fostering critical thinking, and—perhaps—inspiring future career paths.
October 10: An open day full of discoveries – 342 visitors
On Saturday, October 10, 342 visitors of all ages walked through the doors of the Institut Cochin for an afternoon dedicated to scientific discovery.
Thanks to the efforts of the Institute's teams, 16 workshops were offered to the public, covering a wide range of topics: immunology, cancer, infectious diseases, genetics, reproduction, and metabolism.
The program included experiments, microscope observations, demonstrations, games, quizzes, poster discussions, and conversations with research staff.
These activities gave visitors a better understanding of how scientific knowledge is built, allowed them to discover the technologies used in laboratories, and introduced them to key issues in biomedical research.
Open, accessible, and shared science
With 456 participants over four days, the 2026 edition demonstrates the public's interest in research and the importance of dialogue between science and society.
The Institut Cochin extends its warmest thanks to all the staff—researchers, engineers, technicians, doctoral students, and support personnel—who came together to make this event an occasion for discovery, exchange, and sharing.
A huge thank you also goes to all the visitors—young and old alike—for their enthusiasm, questions, and curiosity!
See you in 2027 for the next edition of the Science Festival!
