The course of the visit
Mr Baptiste was welcomed by Catherine Postic (Deputy Director of the Institut Cochin), Yannick Allanore (Deputy Director of the Institut Cochin), Noémie Marrant (Secretary General) and Claire Desnos (CNRS researcher). He visited the laboratories headed by Diana Passaro (Inserm researcher), Michaela Fontenay (APHP Professor and Paris Cité University) and Yannick Simoni (Inserm researcher) and spoke with eight students and young foreign researchers about their work and the conditions for welcoming foreign students to research centres.
A round table discussion then provided an opportunity to exchange views with various departments of the ministry, research organisations and around thirty students and young researchers on the attractiveness of France for foreigners, the strategic needs of organisations and the conditions for welcoming students. The importance of welcoming international students to French research laboratories was emphasised (press release). Mr Philippe Baptiste asked the students at length about their integration in France. The students mentioned in particular the administrative difficulties encountered, especially by non-European students.
